PreambleDear Colleagues,This symposium aims to build a bridge between the disciplines of neuro-ophthalmology and low vision research. The symposium deals with three different levels of visual impairment: retinal, optic nerve and cortical. Many neuro-ophthalmological diseases are associated with persistent visual field defects which require rehabilitation. Ophthalmological rehabilitation can be very successful and improves the patient's quality of life. The benefit of rehabilitation is undisputed and the increasing demand within the next years is a challenge for all professionals who are involved with visually impaired patients. Specific diagnostics and treatment are the preconditions for good rehabilitation and therefore high quality research in neuro-ophthalmology and low vision is getting more and more important. Prof. Susanne Trauzettel-Klosinski has been successfully working and doing research in both disciplines for many years. She is one of the most competent persons to organize such a meeting. Her concern is to bring together all her longstanding companions, colleagues and friends on the occasion of her 60th birthday, which I whole-hearted support. The programme assembles speakers of excellence in their respective fields from many countries. We cordially invite you to participate in this very special meeting. Eberhart Zrenner, Patron of the meeting |
